Some of you may know that I recently became a volunteer photographer for On Angels' Wings - an organization in Southwest Missouri that provides professional photography to families of children (maternity through 18 years) with congenital and serious illnesses, as well as services to families faced with sudden infant loss. While I have only been involved for the past couple months, I have already had the privilege of meeting some amazing kids and their families. Lexi is one of them.

On Angels' Wings founder and president Michelle Cramer has been Lexi's family photographer since she was a newborn. A happy, healthy, and beautiful baby, Lexi was always full of smiles and energy. But about a year and a half ago, Lexi started to grow tired and weak - something even Michelle noticed during a photo session. Her parents took her in for a checkup, and were suddenly faced with the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - the most common form of childhood cancer.

Lexi started treatment immediately, and she is doing amazingly well! She has one more year of cancer treatments, and although there have been some ups and downs, Lexi is a fighter. She is strong, vibrant, and full of life.

I got to photograph Lexi's third birthday party last weekend - a super fun and energetic Princess Celebration with lots of cake, presents, and so many supportive friends and family to wish Lexi well. I had a blast chasing these kids around with my camera! Birthday parties are one of my favorite types of lifestyle events as a photographer, because you can catch so many great candid moments.

This brave little one is an inspiration to so many people. There is so much joy in her little eyes. It isn't fair when children get cancer. It never is. But Lexi's story is a testimony to love, life, and the power of hope and faith.

Happy birthday, beautiful girl! Can't wait to watch as you grow stronger every day.
