Kristy and Taylor will forever hold a special place in my heart. They were the first couple to book with me as their wedding photographer. That's a big deal to me, guys, and I don't take it lightly. I feel so incredibly honored to have been chosen by them.
Kristy and Taylor will be getting married in May, and I was very much looking forward to their e-session. Engagement shoots are a great way to get to know your photographer's style, and to help alleviate some of the stress involved with wedding planning.
We had great light, a beautiful location, and Kristy brought along a very special prop - an afghan that her great-aunt had made for her. Kristy even chose the yarn for it when she was just seven years old. Family heirlooms like this make the best accessories for a photo shoot!
Kristy and Taylor have a sweet and affectionate relationship. You can see the tenderness and caring that they have for one another. Taylor was a complete gentleman to Kristy during our shoot - giving her a helping hand whenever the terrain was rough, and being a good sport with all of the direction I gave them. These two have what it takes for a lasting marriage.
Connecting with the couples I photograph is so important. It's the only way to make good images. If your subjects don't feel comfortable with you as a photographer, it will show. As an introvert, my own self-consciousness in front of a camera helps me relate and empathize with my clients. I really try to be sensitive to the fact that photography is not something most people enjoy having done. I want to make it as painless as possible, even if that means I make a complete fool of myself in the process! (Hopping around like a maniac and shrieking, "Yes, yes, yes!" happens. A lot.)
After our shoot, Kristy texted me and told me how much fun she and Taylor had. That's the best compliment I could ever receive. Engagement sessions are all about love, chemistry and the buzz of starting a new life together. They should be fun! I have all the warm and fuzzy feelings for this special couple.
Congratulations, Taylor and Kristy! Can't wait for your wedding day!
