Alex and Chris are fun. As in laugh your socks off, can't-be-serious-if-they-tried fun. I was so thrilled that they agreed to meet at Ha Ha Tonka State Park for their engagement session. They drove almost 4 hours from St. Louis, because we had to fit their session in while Chris was on leave from the Army.
While it was a typically hot and muggy Missouri evening, they were such troupers. We cooled off by taking the trails to the natural bridge area first, where I snapped a 41 frame panoramic shot as they patiently stood very still. We ended our shoot at the castle for sunset, with it's beautiful sandstone walls reflecting the glow of the descending sun. Best of all, we saw a cat on a leash while we were there! That got a laugh from all of us.
Ha Ha Tonka is such a beautiful area. The views of Lake of the Ozarks are spectacular, and the hiking is an easy go for people who aren't normally outdoorsy, but still challenging enough to be fun. It's also one of the best examples of the Karst topology that Southwest Missouri is famous for. (For you science nerds)
The castle has a fascinating history, having been built by a prominent Kansas City business man who never actually got to live in it. I'll leave the story there for those of you who have never been. You should go! It's a short day trip from Springfield and a great place to take the kids for an afternoon excursion. And it's totally free!
I enjoyed getting to know both Alex and Christopher better, and can't wait to shoot their wedding at Innsbrook Resort next May. As much as Alex and Chris enjoy laughing and joking around, it's sure to be a fun time! These two are all smiles all the time. It shouldn't be any other way.
