TOM + SAMMI // RUSTIC and BOHO LAKESIDE WEDDING

Bride and Groom Sunset

What can I say about this day other than it was absolute perfection? Tom and Sam enjoyed every moment of their rustic countryside wedding. From the first moment I met these two beautiful souls at their engagement session, I knew that working with them would be the stuff of dreams. I can't say more without showing the photos, so here we go - starting at the beginning:

Emma and I started out with Sam's getting ready photos at her hotel. As you can see, Sam doesn't need a lot of help in the beauty department, but her long-time hairstylists created the perfect deconstructed bohemian updo to convey the free-spirited bridal look Sam was going for.

It was really important to Sam that both of her mothers - her own mom and Tom's mom - helped her into her gown. It was a beautiful moment to watch their loving hands button her into her form-fitting lace sheath.

After Tom and Sam had their private first look, we took them out for some romantic portraits in a field of tall grass and wildflowers to fit the natural feel Sam wanted for her photos. I always enjoy chatting with my couples about their vision for their portraits. It's so inspiring to collaborate. As a California lifestyle photographer, using locations with beautiful light is the perfect way to insure gorgeous wedding day portraits with a natural feel.

Sam and Tom elected to have their ceremony at Sammi's family ranch. Sam had grown up swimming in the lake where the ceremony site was placed, and she and Tom both had great memories of their courtship here. But before the ceremony, Sammi chose to have a first look with her dad at their family cabin.

Meanwhile, the wedding party was ready to get the real party started!

The lakeside ceremony was full of meaningful vows, memorable stories, laughter and tears.

After the ceremony, we took the happy newlyweds and their attendants for portraits. I love photographing couples after the ceremony, because all the pressure and stress is over and the natural emotions are running high!

Then it was time for dinner and cake - everybody's favorite part of the day!

The toasts were heartfelt and sincere, especially the toast that Sam's sister gave as maid-of-honor. I don't think there was a dry eye under the tent. These sisters have such a special bond.

As the sun started to set, Tom and Sam took to the dance floor and set a great pace for the rest of the evening. It was wonderful to be a part of their beautiful day, and to share in the moments of their perfect wedding story.

WADE + SHELBY // RAINY DAY WEDDING at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH // SPRINGFIELD, MO

You just never know about April in the Ozarks. The weather can change on a dime, dashing a bride's hopes of an outdoor wedding with a flash of the radar screen. Luckily for Shelby and Wade, their wedding ceremony and reception were both indoors, so they were able to roll with the 1-2 punch the weather gave them like champs. They were so happy to be getting married that everyone still had a blast and we were able to create some great photos!

We may have had to get a little creative with finding cover during portrait time, but Shelby and Wade were up for anything and trusted me completely. I personally love rainy weather - the overcast light and moody tones are totally my cup of tea! We went downtown to a few of my favorite spots in between rain showers, and even had a chance to do some night portraits later in the evening after the storms left the area.

Shelby's day began with her closest friends as they got ready together at her church.

The moment when a mother knows the good work of raising her daughter is finished, and she sees a beautiful woman before her where a little girl once stood. It's one of the most emotional times for me on a wedding day.

Wade's mom Kathy waited to give Wade a very special gift as he read a letter from Shelby. Lots of tears were shed as she pinned her grandfather's pocket watch onto Wade's lapel.

Shelby and Wade opted not to see one another before their ceremony at Shelby's church, Immaculate Conception. It was really important to Wade for his first glance to be of his bride as she came down the aisle. As you can see he was pretty thrilled!

After the ceremony, we met up at The Walnut Street Inn for wedding party and couple's portraits. What a fun group of friends! The rain cleared long enough for us to do several photos in the gardens before moving down the street for their reception at 425 Downtown.

Shelby and Wade opted for gorgeous shades of blush and rose gold for their reception decor. Family friend Deb Owensby did an amazing job of decorating and coordinating the day.

This incredibly heartfelt moment between Wade and his mom even made me a little weepy. The bond between a mother and her children is incredible.

Wade insisted on winning his new bride's garter by dancing for her favor! He succeeded.

Shelby's softball teammates have been a big part of her life, so posing on their team cooler was a must-have photo!

After some night portraits, Wade and Shelby bid farewell to their family and friends with an epic Chinese lantern and sparkler send off that stopped traffic. It was a one-of-a-kind moment, and the perfect ending to a fantastic day.

Thanks Wade and Shelby for your trust and confidence in me and for your positive vibes! You guys are amazing and have a long and happy life ahead of you as husband and wife!
