If I could come up with one phrase to describe Lydia and Michael's wedding day, it would be "super fun time." There was so much laughter, friendship, and happiness all around this amazing couple as they prepared to take their vows that it was infectious. You couldn't help but smile!

Lydia and Michael met in China when he was studying abroad at University. Lydia was affectionately known as the "most beautiful girl on campus" by her friends, and so it was no big surprise when Michael had to get to know her too. Michael soon found out that Lydia's wit, kindness, and intelligence matched her good looks, and it was only a matter of time before he knew that he had not only met the most beautiful girl on campus, but his future wife.

While their studies in opera (for Lydia) and law (for Michael) would mean that they would temporarily have to have a long-distance relationship, Lydia was eventually able to move to the DC area from China to attend Westminster Choir College to further her music studies and continue their courtship. After Michael proposed with a beautiful classic solitaire, Lydia set about planning their American wedding with a little help from her friends (and Pinterest!) It's hard to believe that Lydia had never even attended a Western wedding before planning her own. Every detail was perfection, and she did an amazing job with every aspect of the day.

Their wedding day included lots of personal touches - the girls were even working on the bouquets when I arrived the night before the wedding - and silk fans were brought by Lydia's parents from China as wedding favors. While there were a few travel snafus in getting all of Lydia's immediate family here in time for her wedding, her parents and sister made it just in time. The precious look on her dad's face when he saw Lydia in her dress for the first time said it all.

This fashionable bride had not only one beautiful wedding gown, but two! A demure, vintage-inspired gown was her choice for the ceremony at Michael's home church in Bartlesville, while a strapless lace gown was the perfect choice for dancing the night away at her reception! She looked radiant all day long.

The friendships that Michael and Lydia have forged through the years shone all the way from getting ready time until their fun-filled reception. They were such a fun group to photograph! The Best Man and Maid of Honor are devoted friends to the couple - having known one another for many years. Their speeches were thoughtful and caring.

As our coverage wrapped up, Lydia and Michael were still dancing the night away, even with an hours long trip ahead of them to China for their Chinese ceremony and then on to Thailand for a romantic beach honeymoon. These two have so much positive energy! I enjoyed getting to know Lydia and Michael so much. It was wonderful watching them truly enjoy their wedding day in every way. Thanks for having me, guys! It was a perfect day and a beautiful experience being your photographer.

When Kayla and I first started chatting over the phone about her wedding to Caleb, I could tell that she wanted something special for their wedding and engagement photography. As we talked, words like "creative, artistic, and unique" came up often, and that got me super excited to work with them. Couples who want to actively participate in the process of making a picture really get me going. I think it's the reason most of my clients tend to be artists, other photographers, and all around creative people. It's a collaborative process that ends up being inspiring for both parties!

When Kayla and Caleb drove in from Oklahoma for their engagement session with me at Fellows Lake, I knew from the moment they stepped out of the car that this was going to be a great experience. I loved their bohemian, free-spirited vibe, and really -  how much more #hashtagflawless could Kayla be? Gorgeous! We started bouncing ideas off of one another immediately, and our shoot was easy and fun - one moment flowed into the next seamlessly.

As we got to know one another, I also found out that this sweet couple have such wonderful hearts. Kayla and Caleb are very active in their church. It was apparent to me how important faith and serving others is in their lives. They are both musicians on their worship team - Caleb is a guitarist and vocalist, and Kayla plays the violin. They are also involved in their community. Caleb's dad is the Chief of the Wyandotte Nation, and Caleb is invested in preserving and keeping Wyandotte culture strong and alive.

Caleb and Kayla are very loving and kind to one another. They were holding hands almost the whole time we were shooting. We laughed a ton, too! I could tell my little tricks and cues were hilarious to them. They were so darn photogenic, authentic, and all around awesome. (I also admit I fell in love with the Alexandrite ring that Caleb had given Kayla. So beautiful and unique! I can't wait to create a really special ring shot with it.)

As we wrapped up our session, amidst the most gorgeous light I had seen in a long time, I didn't want to stop shooting. I'm looking forward to Kayla and Caleb's June wedding, and all of the fantastic moments and beauty that it will bring to my camera. I often say that my job never feels like work, and with couples like Kayla and Caleb, it's positively inspiring!
